Day Fourteen - Te Anau, NZ

Wednesday, August 3rd

Laid low today and decided to play around town on our last day in Te Anau instead of spend the entrance fee to the glow worm caves like anticipated.  Figured we’re definitely coming back to this wonderland they call New Zealand so we’ll visit the more infamous cave on our next trip!  Shopping has been so varied since we left the states.  The village shops in Bora Bora focused heavily on the Tahitian pearls.  Paihia had a multitude of adorable shops containing work from talented artists local to New Zealand.  Te Anau, what more is there to say about shopping in Te Anau but random, random, random.  Each store was a replica of the next in its selection of the most random sh*t possible!  Everything from silly trinkets, to kitchenware, to clothing but not the souvenir kind, art of all types, and on, and on.  Found one actual shop that would appeal to a tourist by a tasty bakery called The Pop In Café.  Everything here is a café.  While we’re on the topic of food, we really like NZ ketchup!  It’s sweeter.

Spent some time catching up on all things internet – bills and what not.  Listened to more coverage of the ‘American debt crisis’.  It has been an interesting experience witnessing this situation from overseas.  And it has been interesting to watch as the exchange rate for the US dollar changes every day.  Wishing we’d cashed in more when we first arrived.

Oh!  And remember when we said we were nervous about leaving the Hertz rental at Whangerie Airport without a clerk to check us in?  Well, our nerves were justified.  There are unexplained charges to our credit card from Hertz that we have to wait until ‘regular business hours’ to investigate and resolve.  Argh.

We both enjoyed the most amazing wrap EVER at the Olive Tree Café.  Rick’s with chicken and Amanda’s with veggies – delicious either way!
